Arsonist Tells Police He Set The Fire Because He Was “Curious & Bored”

A Pennsylvania man told police that he was “curious and bored” after he was arrested for setting fire to a three story abandoned hotel. Charges of arson, reckless burning, risking a catastrophe, burglary, and criminal trespass have been filed against 30 year old Andrew Higdon of Elk County, who is accused of torching the historic Johnsonburg Hotel on December 30th. The flames spread and engulfed the abandoned building. The roof of the abandoned hotel collapsed into the lower floors. When firefighters arrived, they say Higdon walked out of a nearby auto garage… and said he saw another man leaving the hotel before right before the fire started. But police were suspicious because they realized it would have been too far away to see, and Higdon appeared to be nervous. Their suspicions were further raised when the owner of the auto garage told them Higdon stopped by shortly before the fire and was drinking alcohol, and he left and returned several times. He eventually admitted to police, that he had been drinking when he went into the hotel and set several curtains and a pile of mattresses on fire with his lighter.
