Former Altoona YMCA Building Headed For Sheriff’s Sale

The old YMCA on Lexington Avenue in Altoona is now headed for a sheriff’s sale on March 10th. Its last use was as the KNY Family Fitness Center, which shut down in early 2019 after M&T Bank foreclosed on it back in 2017. The now 97 year old building included a full-sized basketball court, a pool and an exercise room. It is said to be in sound condition overall, but the interior reportedly needs some work. City leaders hope to see it return to use as a gym or some sort of community center-type place. As of right now, the property is listed for the March 10 sheriff’s sale for $245,000. It is five stories, with 42,000 square feet of floor space. It served as the YMCA until 1992. After the Y closed, the building sat vacant for five years before it reopened as the KNY.
