Blair County Barber Hangs Up The Shears

A longtime and well known Blair County barber is retiring after over 50 years in business. Dave Musselman of Hollidaysburg says his decision to call it quits is based on the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Musselman… according to the local paper… does say that on occasion he will still cut the hair of his relatives though. After rebuilding his business from the devastating 2014 Allegheny Street fire, he decided… due to concerns over coronavirus… that it was now time to retire. The now retired 74 year old former barber, says he was busy and business was good, until Governor Wolf ordered most small shops to temporarily close in the early months of the pandemic. He says when he was finally allowed to reopen around June, it was like starting all over, with a whole set of new expenses to deal with. Things like safety measures, such as face shields, sanitizing equipment and face masks for customers. Musselman said his lack of employees meant he was ineligible for many funding initiatives. He says in January, he decided to just hang it all up. Musselman says with the restrictions from the state, it was just too much.
