PA LABOR AND INDUSTRY DEPARTMENT IS HIRING

Looking for a job? Well, listen up… The state Department of Labor & Industry has announced plans to hire 120 additional staffers to handle phone lines and emails this month, and even more people next month, as it deals with is says is a continuing increase of claims caused by the coronavirus shutdowns. Acting Labor Secretary Jennifer Berrier said Tuesday, in a virtual news conference, that workers have been active around the clock, seven days a week. She said that despite their best efforts since las March, there have been more than 5 million unemployment applications, a number “never seen before.” She also says that because of the difficulty of the work, there have been staff retention “challenges.” In addition to expanding the workforce to meet demand, the department has borrowed workers from other state agencies and used contract employees, but now they simply need to hire more workers to handle the load.
