BLAIR PLANS MASS VACCINE CLINIC

In Blair County, plans are being made to vaccinate up to 2,000 people a day for coronavirus. A mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic is being proposed for the Blair County Convention Center, but so far, it remains unclear just when it may open. Blair County Emergency Management Director Mark Taylor says however, that he would expect it to be soon. It all depends upon when the state hears from the federal government, and then can notifiy local officials that there will be enough vaccine supply to sustain the clinic. Right now, it is hoped that the notification could come within the next two weeks. It would require at least 10,000 doses of vaccine a week just to support the mass vaccinatioin clinic, which would be capable of innoculating 2,000 people a day, 12 hours a day, every day for as long as three weeks. So far, supply continues to lag behind demand. Pennsylvania received 254,000 first doses of vaccine so far this week, but providers requested 425,000 from the federal government. The average number of vaccinations taking place each day in Pennsylvania is now about 67,000 statewide. That number is expected to pick up quickly with Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine… which only requires one dose… ramping up production fast.
