Two Altoona residents are accused of trading drugs for stolen guns. 45 year old Michael Burchfield and 33 year ols Summer Heil were arrested last year after a nine-month investigation into stolen guns and drug trafficking. The pair appeared Tuesday in Blair County Court prior to when they were expected to go on trial in April on criminal charges in which they are accused of selling methamphetamine and heroin from a local motel room and trading illegal drugs for stolen guns. Heil said she would enter guilty pleas in exchange for a recommended sentence of three to 11 years in prison. Burchfield also pled guilty, but the judge put sentencing on hold, pending completion of a presentence investigation. The case unfolded as police seized guns from Heil and Burchfield’s room at the Super 8 motel, then traced the guns, which included firearms that were stolen from an unoccupied Altoona residence whose owner had died.
