The Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company is raising money to buy a new fire truck now, a little more than three months after its old pumper truck broke down. The goal is $360,000 for the replacement truck,. So far, they have raised about $260,000 from 125 donations. Their original plan was to borrow $200,000 from the state, but that would have left them with the task of paying off a 25-year loan. They happily report though, that the tremendous support and outreach they have gotten so far from the local community has resulted in not needing to come up with nearly that much. In fact, now they are looking at borrowing only about $100,000… maybe less if the fundraising efforts continue to pay off. In the meantime, they have had to borrow a truck, and they say it will take up to 9 months before the new vehicle is ready. Donations continue to come in, and they are open to any donations from businesses and individuals… in any amount.
