Believe it or not, it has now been almost two decades since the tragic September 11th attack on our country. To honor the upcoming 20th anniversary of that horrible day, members of the local 9/11 Anniversary Committee are planning a community event. The commemoration will be held at the Jaffa Shrine Center in Altoona on September 11th, 2021, starting at 7pm. 3,200 people will be welcomed in. It is part of a plan to continue the tradition of marking the 9/11 anniversary in Altoona every five years. Former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier will produce a ‘welcome video.’ The Altoona Community Band, Hollidaysburg Community Chorus, Altoona Youth Orchestra, and other local musicians will perform. There will be a “Walk of Honor” for police, clergy, military, fire, and all first responders. Following the walk, organizers will present a program in honor of the victims and survivors of the 9/11 attacks. Tickets will start being distributed on August 2nd, and they will be available at 11 different locations throughout Central Pennsylvania.
