The Altoona-Blair County Airport is getting a federal grant of just over $423,000 to cover the remaining cost of finishing a runway improvement project. U.S. Rep. John Joyce said Tuesday, the project should now be able to be wrapped up by the end of the summer. The airport started the crosswinds runway improvement project last year, and when it is finished, those improvements to one of two runways at the airport should last about 20 to 25 years. Due to the availability of federal grant funds for the project which had already been earmarked to cover transportation expenses, the local airport authority did not have to come up with any money for the project.
