FORMER PA POLICE CHIEF ARRESTED

A police chief here in Pennsylvania has been arrested after threatening a citizen over some Facebook posts. According to federal prosecutors, 45 year old Brian Buglio “threatened to pursue felony criminal charges” against the man even though he admitted they lacked merit. Buglio… who was the police chief for the city of West Hazelton in the eastern side of the state… about 50 miles southwest of Scranton… has agreed to plead guilty to a charge of deprivation of civil rights. It all began when a private citizen back in February 2020, posted social media content on Facebook criticizing Buglio and the West Hazleton Police Department. The case was investigated by the Scranton Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Public Corruption Task Force, which is comprised of members with the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, and agents with the FBI and Internal Revenue Service. When he is sentenced, Buglio is facing a maximum of one year in prison and a fine of $100,000.
