Pool Will Open!

Some good news ahead of some hot days ahead this summer… In Altoona, the Prospect Pool has gotten the green light to open for the summer, after the filtration system passed its critical test. The first hurdle for the pool this summer was a struggle to get enough lifeguards to staff it. Then came word that the old filtration system which hadn’t been turned on under load for two years, might not work. Crews went ahead and filled the pool, because that was necessary before the filtration system could even be checked out. When they hit the switch, it started. Now, after running for about two weeks without any problems, everyone feels it is safe to say the pool will open for the summer on June 12th. The pool will be open from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., seven days a week, during June and July and from 12:30 to 6 p.m. during August. The last day will be Aug. 15. As for lifeguards, they now have 12 lined up, along with two cashiers and six to 10 concession stand workers. In addition to the public hours, the pool is also available for privat parties for birthdays and other special occasions from 7 to 9 p.m. in June and July and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in August. The cost is $250 and lifeguards are provided. If you want to reserve a date you better hurry because some are already filling up. Swim lessons will also be offered this summer by certfied lifeguards.
