SERIAL KILLER ALREADY SERVING MULTIPLE LIFE SENTENCES ADMITS TO MURDER OF BREEZEWOOD MAN BACK IN 1977

A convicted serial killer who is now serving life sentences in Florida, confessed to killing a Greenwood man at a Breezewood area rest stop along Interstate 70 back on New Year’s Eve 1977. Pennsylvania State Police investigators obtained the confession from Edward Surratt, an inmate at a state prison in Raiford, Florida. 36 yearold Joel Kreuger was found dead by a trucker the morning of January 1,1978 in his parked car at the rest stop 5 miles south of Breezewood. Kreuger died from a shotgun wound to the chest. Kreuger had started as director of volunteer services at the Altoona VA Hospital, now known as the Van Zandt VA Medical Center, in December 1974. Also found murdered that New Year’s morning about 3 miles away were 64 year old Guy Mills and his wife, 65 year old Laura Mills in their Breezewood home. Surratt also confessed to their murders as well as three others in Beaver County. Surratt is now 79 years old. He is serving two life sentences in Florida and he was also convicted of murder in South Carolina.
