FATAL FIRE IN BEDFORD COUNTY

A woman died in a Bedford County fire over the holiday weekend. Flames broke out just after 6:30pm on Sunday in Woodbury, and the fire destroyed a three and a half story building that housed the post office and two apartments. The woman who died was said to have been older and bedridden. She lived in a first floor apartment. A couple lived in a second floor apartment, where a woman was home a the time the fire broke out. She was able to safely escape. An autopsy will be performed on the victim, when officials say they will try to confirm the identity of the person they believe it is through dental records or perhaps DNA samples. Invesigators believe the fire started on the first floor. The state fire marshal’s office has been called in. The old wood frame building was completely destroyed.
