Somerset Man Died When Tree Fell on Him

According to Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees, a Somerset man suffered fatal injuries Saturday after being crushed by a tree in a logging accident. Lees identified the victim as 54-year-old Joel Friedline. Lees says Friedline was cutting trees on a family farm, located along Walnutdale Road in Jenner Township, around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon, when a large tree, approximately 100 feet tall and 18 inches in diameter, fell and landed on him. Lees has ruled his cause of death as crushing injuries as a result of blunt force trauma, and his death has been determined to be accidental. Lees notes that the man’s wife was with him at the time of the incident and called 911.
