ALTOONA MAN ARRESTED AFTER BARRICADING HIMSELF IN A RELATIVE’S HOUSE

An Altoona man was taken into custody after Altoona Police say he barricaded himself inside a relative’s house, along with several firearms, and assaulted an officer. 42 year old Vaughn Ackerman is now facing 28 felony charges, after police say he made abnormal posts on Facebook, prompting a relative to say she was concerned about his “deteriorating mental state” amid his continued methamphetamine use. She told police she does not allow Ackerman inside her home when she is not there, but when she returned home on Monday night, she discovered a second-floor door was open, so she called police. When officers arrived, they found the door barricaded from the inside by Ackerman, who was taken into custody. When he was taken to UPMC Altoona for evaluation, he got out of the cuffs, then kicked and punched an officer who suffered a concussion. Ackerman is now in the Blair County Prison on $450,000 cash bail.
