Altoona Police arrested VAUGHN ACKERMAN at his home on Logan Boulevard after learning that ACKERMAN was making abnormal posts to social media and then discovered that he had traveled to Hollidaysburg, where he confronted others with an AR-15 style rifle with a high capacity drum magazine while wearing a bulletproof vest. ACKERMAN was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was issued for his home, where a virtual stockpile of weapons, ammunition, and equipment was seized… including two sets of kevlar body armor. Also seized by police, were some devices used to smoke methamphetamine. Police also say Ackerman broke into a home from which some of the seized items had been stolen, and he was already a previously convicted felon, and therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm. While undergoing a medical examination at UPMC Altoona following his arrest, ACKERMAN slipped out of his cuffs and assaulted an Altoona Police officer by kicking him in the head and punching him in the face. He now faces charges including Burglary, Theft, Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Escape, and numerous firearms charges. Ackerman was locked up in the Blair County Prison in lieu of $200,000 cash bail.
