A former Blair County Prison corrections officer has filed a lawsuit, claiming she was terminated because she was taking too much time off due to medical issues. 49 year old Susan Desch claims her supervisors in the prison acted in a “rude and condescending manner” when she requested special accommodations to address her medical problems that included severe migraine headaches. Desch also claims that she was disciplined for misusing the Family Medical Leave Act. In her suit, Desch is requesting reimbursement for the lost wages and benefits that she suffered due to her termination. She also is requesting punitive damages. Desch was hired as a corrections officer in April of 2007. She was terminated on November 13, 2020, after more than 13 years of service, according to the prison, for “repeated patterns of absences.”
