FRED LEAVES A LOT OF WATER BEHIND

Heavy rains pounded the area as the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred moved through central Pennsylvania. Locally, the Altoona-Blair County Airport recorded more than 3.5 inches of rain throughout the day on Wednesday, with a little more than two inches of it coming down in just 40 minutes, between about noon and 1pm. Some area roads were flooded after storm drains couldn’t keep up with the downpours. Fred is now moving out of the area, and the cleanup now begins. Blair County Emergency Management reports that the foundation caved in at a house in Williamsburg… leaving the home uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting the people who lived there. They and their pets got out safely. There were some road washouts, but we have been told of no injuries from the storm. There were also tornado warnings for the region Wednesday, but no reports of actual twisters touching down.
