LIBRARY SLOWLY COMING BACK TO LIFE

The Altoona Area Public Library has reopened the first floor for public use. Following devastating damages sustained in a water line break back in December 2020, the facility had been closed while major repairs to the building’s electrical panels and emergency generator were completed. Those repairs took much longer than originally expected, so even though much of the ground floor is still under reconstruction, the library decided that it was important to open the first floor to the public once again. The Youth Room collection is being sorted and unpacked and they say they beleive that it will be another few weeks before they can fully reopen all areas of the facility. But now, you can browse the adult collection on the first floor and use the public computers during the temporary hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5pm. Until the main facility is fully reopened, the library will also maintain the temporary auxiliary site at the Transportation Center on 11th Avenue in Altoona. It’s open Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 5.
