TRIAL FOR COACH ACCUSED IN SEX ASSAULT DELAYED UNTIL OCTOBER

The case of a former Bellwood-Antis wrestling coach who is accused of sexual assault, will now be delayed until some time in October. 41 year old Ryan Blazier is being held behind bars in the Blair County prison. His trial was scheduled for this week, but Judge Daniel J. Milliron signed an order, granting a trial continuance requested by Blazier’s defense attorney. The jury that had already been selected earlier this month… on August 9th… has now been dismissed. The reason for the requested continuance apparently is because the defense recently gained access to a large quantity of materials that state police at Hollidaysburg had collected from the school district during the investigation, and while they are not yet sure if these materials will be relevant to Blazier’s defense, they argued that they should have time to review them. The prosecution agreed with the delay. District Attorney Pete Weeks said he’d rather have the trial delayed than to have the case overturned on appeal and then take 10 years to get to trial again.
