The Altoona Police Department has announced the hiring of 6 new officers! 3 of the new hires have previously served in the United States Marine Corps and 2 have already completed Police Academy training in the state of PA. The 4 officers who have not already completed Act 120 training, will attend the police academy at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, starting next week. Upon successful completion of the academy, officers will then begin a rigorous 14 week training program here at APD, followed by an additional 12 weeks of close supervision. The 2 certified officers will begin the field training program immediately. APD also announced two promotions within the department. Lieutenant Joseph M. Cox III has been promoted to Deputy Chief and Sergeant Dan Vasil has been promoted to Lieutenant.
