Authorities are set to release the findings of the investigation into the death of Blair County Corrections Officer Rhonda Russell later this week to determine whether of not the use of deadly force was justified, according to a press release from the Blair County District Attorney’s Office. Authorities say Officer Russell was shot and killed last November, by an Altoona police officer, during a struggle with an inmate inside the Blair County Central Court building. The inmate, identified as 55-year-old Christopher Aikens, has since been charged with second degree murder for his role in Officer Russell’s death. Investigators say Aikens allegedly asked Russell, who was reportedly watching him, if he could use the bathroom. Police say when Aikens returned, he allegedly attacked Officer Russell and was able to gain control of her gun and hold her hostage.
