PAPER MILL CLOSING MEANS HUNDREDS OF LOST JOBS

According to a report aired on a local television station, a paper mill in Roaring Spring is shutting down… for good. The closure at Appvion will impact about 300 jobs in our region. Employees received notice on Monday morning that Appvion will stop operations as of March 23rd. They say there were market changes that affected the profitability, but the restrictions imposed by the state due to coronavirus was the final straw, and company management realized that there was no way forward given the current restrictions taht remain in place. Upon hearing the news, State Representative Jim Gregory released a statement, saying that the regional workforce response team has been activated to ensure that as many of the highly-skilled workers can find new jobs. He said then, the attention will turn to marketing the facility for potential operators.
