Martinsburg Man Arrested On Weapons Charge

A previously convicted felon is facing charges after Freedom Township Police say he lied to them about a handgun that was found in his vehicle. 70 year old George Stewart of Martinsburg got into trouble after a call from a Sheetz store just after midnight on Thursday, about a drunk man trying to purchase alcohol. When officers arrived, they learned that Steward was that man, and he had driven away. He was later found parked in front of the Turkey Hill Minit Market in Roaring Spring. When officers talked to him, they saw a silver revolver inside the vehicle which Stewart claimed was not his. The firearm’s serial number was traced back to Stewart, but he again denied ownership and said he sold it to a friend. Turns out, Stewart was still on probation from a prior felony conviction, and prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was locked up in the Blair County Prison after he was unable to post a $15,000 bail.
