Possible Tax Increase Looms

If you own property in the Hollidaysburg Area School District, get set to pay more in taxes. The school board is looking at raising property taxes by 0.3365 mills, which would translate to an increase of about $58 a year for a property valued at $168,000. According to the local paper, board member Nicole Hartman is not in favor of it, saying that now is “not a good time” for it. While there was no official action taken, and no official vote was taken either, a show of hands indicated that the majority would vote for the increase if it comes to a vote. Now, according to the paper, the increase will likely be presented at the board’s June 16 budget adoption meeting. The whole thing came about following an analysis of the district’s budget forecasting model which shows the current projected totals for the 2021-22 budget are $52.5 million in expenditures and $50.5 million in revenue… leaving a $2 million funding shortfall.
