BAIL REQUEST DENIED

A bail request from an Altoona man who is launching a post-sentence appeal with the state Superior Court to challenge his prison sentence on child sexual assault and child pornography offenses, has been turned down.
Judge Daniel J. Milliron on Tuesday, denied the bail-pending-appeal request filed by 40 year old Corey Fowler… an inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale. Last July, Fowler attempted to withdraw the no contest pleas he entered back in July 2019 to child sexual assault and child pornography charges, claiming that he didn’t understand what he was doing at the time. But prosecutors say hold on… they say Fowler submitted his pleas in a deal in which he would get a recommended sentence of five- to 10-years in prison, followed by 10 years of probation… thereby avoiding a jury trial which could have ended with him getting a much longer prison sentence. Last time around… a year ago… Judge Milliron concluded that Fowler had offered no legally valid reason to withdraw his no contest pleas. At the end of yesterday’s hearing, the judge said nothing has changed since then.
