PA Officials Vote to Expand Ban on Texting while Driving

Pennsylvania’s state Senate wants to expand a ban on texting while driving and approved legislation on Thursday that would increase the penalties for motorists who are handling their cell phones for almost any activity while driving. The bill, approved 37-11, now goes to the state House of Representatives.

Pair Faces Charges After Meth was Shipped to Altoona

Two people are facing charges after meth was found in a package that was shipped to Altoona and intercepted by a US Postal inspector. Altoona police said Breanna Turner, 26, of Altoona, and Kareem Bailey, 29, of Newark, New Jersey, were arrested after a tactical response team (TRT) breached a home along Crawford Avenue.

A broadband service-availability mapping project by Penn State Extension could help secure tens of millions of dollars in federal funding for Pennsylvania. Program leader James Ladlee said they’ve identified more than 50,000 Pennsylvania locations that were incorrectly reported as already having high-speed internet access.

3 People Killed in Crash Were Indiana Residents

The three people killed in chain reaction crashes on Interstate 80 Tuesday have been identified as a family from the state of Indiana. The Centre County coroner’s office has identified the victims as a 48-year-old father, 49-year-old mother and their 20-year-old son from Porter County.

Altoona Firefighters Raise Proceeds for Childrens Winter Coats

Altoona firefighters are working with other departments and community organizations to make sure that no child goes cold this winter through their 8th annual golf tournament. Thirty-four teams hit the links Monday at Park Hills. Close to five thousand coats have been donated to the school district so far.

AASD Budget Approved

The Altoona Area School District’s 2023-2024 budget was approved Monday, and with it comes a 4.9% tax increase. The school board also approved the addition of 9 school security personnel to help keep the schools safe.

Altoona Rotary Club Donates Thousands to Local Organizations

Multiple organizations in Blair County received thousands of dollars in funding to help with the cost of operations, events and projects. The Altoona Rotary Club donated $30,000 to organizations in the area. The organizations were encouraged to apply for grants earlier this year based on proceeds raised from the “Grapes for Good” fundraiser.

Clearfield Man Charged After Kicking in a Door

A Clearfield man is facing charges after police allege he kicked in a door and stole from a tenant that he’s subleasing to. Michael McCreadie, 44, is facing trespassing charges, among others after being arrested on Thursday. Police found McCreadie along Route 879 and he was taken into custody without issue.
