The Blair County NAACP Chapter and multiple UPMC Altoona hospital workers gathered Thursday to participate in the third annual White Coats Against Racism Kneel-In. This protest started in 2020 to condemn the actions committed against George Floyd by Derek Chauvin.

Missing Teen Believed to be in Altoona Area

A teen missing from Bedford County is believed to be in the Altoona area, according to Pennsylvania State Police. More State Police on the Roads this Holiday Weekend

State police are hitting Pennsylvania roadways over the Memorial Day holiday for traffic enforcement. Troopers across the state will be out in force from Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29 in anticipation of increased vehicle traffic. They will be watching for distracted, aggressive and intoxicated driving.

Historic Altoona Building to get a Facelift

An historic building in downtown Altoona that’s been in disrepair for years is being re-purposed and revitalized for both housing and recreation. Plans are now official for a complete interior redesign of the former McCrory’s Department Store on 11th Ave. near the Heritage Plaza in downtown Altoona.

Altoona native Roxie (Harris) Thomas is now a part of the 100-year-old club celebrating the landmark Monday surrounded by her friends and family.Thomas was born on May 21, 1923, in Altoona. She’s the youngest of 11 and the only family member born in Pennsylvania. She has a couple of hobbies, including skating and bingo.

PSP Identify Jane Doe as Utah Woman

State police have identified “Jane Doe” after releasing details on the body found near Exit 123, off-ramp of I-80 on May 2. After extensive investigative work, the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Unit out of Clearfield said they were able to identify the deceased woman as Ivana Meandzija from Utah.

Blair Co. Pair Charged by the ATF

Two men from Blair County are facing federal gun violations after being charged by the ATF in late April. Harry Miller and Craig Zahradnik are both charged with engaging in the business of dealing and manufacturing firearms without a license.Evidence listed included multiple video surveillance in several areas in Altoona.

Altoona Man Killed in House Fire

A man was killed in a house fire in Altoona late Friday evening, according to the Blair County Coroner’s office. The fire along the 200 block of Maple Avenue. The name and age of the individual have not been released until the family is notified. The blaze remains under investigation.
