New Bike Trails in Centre County

Bicyclists of all experience levels will be able to train their skills or just casually ride some trails when the new bike park in Centre County opens for the season. The Harvest Fields Community Trails (HFCT) Bike Park will hold its grand opening Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and there will also be prize giveaways.

AASD Reading & Math Scores Down

Data from Stanford University’s Education Recovery Scorecard shows the change in average reading and math scores are down from 2019 to 2022 in districts across Central PA. Altoona Area School District’s reading scores are down half a grade level, while their math scores are down 0.8.

AASD Hires New Superintendent

Starting July 15 the Altoona Area School District will have a new superintendent. Brad Hatch was appointed as the new Superintendent through July 14, 2027, during Monday’s meeting of the school board. Hatch holds a Master of Education from St. Francis University.

95 Year Old Man Dies in Lawn Mowing Accident

A Bedford County man was killed Monday after rolling his lawnmower over an embankment. According to Bedford County Coroner Rusty Styer, 95-year-old John Quinn was mowing his lawn on the 2000 block of Fleegle Road in Napier Township when the accident occured.

Penn State Announces White Out Game Schedule

Penn State football announced earlier today the schedule for its annual theme games, including the ever-popular “Whiteout.” This season, the Nittany Lions will play host to the Iowa Hawkeyes for the “Whiteout” game, which will kick off at 8 p.m. on Sept. 23rd. on CBS.

This afternoon, Elon Musk announced that Penn State Graduate Linda Yaccarino has been named the new CEO of Twitter. She graduated from Penn State in 1985 with a degree in Liberal Arts, telecommunications and has worked for NBCUniversal since 2011 as she rebuilt its advertising business.
