Gov. Shapiro Budget Includes Incentives for Cops, Nurses & Teachers

With his budget proposal under consideration by lawmakers, Gov. Josh Shapiro has toured the state to tout a financial incentive that he hopes will attract more people into Pennsylvania’s ranks of police officers, nurses and teachers. He’s proposed a three year tax credit of up to $2500 dollars a year for new recuirts.

Altoona Crash Allegedly Caused by Man on Heroin

A Hollidaysburg man is behind bars after he allegedly admitted to doing heroin before passing out and crashing a car into a utility pole in the City of Altoona. Police were called just after midnight this morning to the 400 block of 20th Street where they found 25-year-old Chance Robinson, passed out behind the wheel.

Blair Co. Man Charged with Shooting at Tenant

A Blair County man is facing charges after he was accused of shooting at his tenant with a .22 caliber rifle. State police were called to a residence along Burns Drive in Tyrone Township for a reported shooting on Sunday, March 26th. 62 year old Craig Burns has been placed in the Blair County Prison.

No Known Threats After Swatting Incidents

Following an investigation into this morning’s “swatting” incidents throughout our area, state police say there is “no known threat” to any surrounding schools. Troopers say the “swatting” calls prompted law enforcement responses at multiple area school districts, including Altoona Area.

Altoona City Council is Working on ARPA Funds

The Altoona City Council is working to utilize its funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. Council received a presentation at their Monday evening work session that summarized the projects. The majority of the projects are related to improving infrastructure and stormwater drainage throughout the city. They are also hoping to deal with blighted buildings.

School Bus Driver to be Arraigned in May

Johnstown police have filed charges against a local school bus driver after he was accused of “shoving” a 6-year-old autistic boy last Thursday. The complaint involving 73-year-old Christopher Ilg. He has been suspended but not terminated. An arraignment hearing to take place in May.

Altoona Road Work to Begin April 3rd

A PennDOT bridge replacement project will take place in the city of Altoona for the 5th avenue bridge over Mill Run Stream, beginning Monday April 3rd. Multiple Shots Fired in Altoona

Police are investigating after a disturbance turned into multiple shots fired at an Altoona apartment complex just before 4 a.m. Sunday at Evergreen Manors on 60th Street. No injuries and the suspect fled. Allegheny Township police ask that anyone with information about the incident call (814) 695-3333

Cambria Co. Man Accused of Stealing Collectibles

A Cambria County man has been accused of stealing over $18,000 worth of collectible items and then failing to complete $7,000 worth of projects that he was paid to do. Austin Kline, 22, of South Fork accused in the case. Kline was accused of helping a man move which is when the collectibles went missing.
