Johnstown Schools Closed After Threat

Schools in the Johnstown area were closed today after the district received a threat about a school shooting. The Greater Johnstown School District administration received a threat saying, “shoot the school up,” at 3:11 p.m. on Monday. The district said that it will release more details as the investigation continues.

Altoona Police put Punxy Man Behind Bars

Altoona Police say a Punxsutawney man is in jail after he reportedly held a woman hostage during a home invasion over the weekend. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Anthony LaCass. He is being held at the Blair County Prison and his bail was denied.

A Pennsylvania court ruled today that special elections to fill three vacancies in Democratic-leaning state House districts will be held together next month, with partisan control of the chamber at stake. UPMC to Increase Minimum Starting Wage

UPMC announced its plans to increase minimum starting wages for entry-level positions to $18 an hour within the next few years. UPMC made the announcement Thursday, saying the increased wage is an effort to support its workforce, recruit new employees and continue to be the employer of choice in healthcare.

Punxy Principal Sentenced

A co-principal at Punxsutawney Area High School has been sentenced on charges stemming from a DUI and for violating a protection from abuse order. Paul Hetrick, 45, was sentenced to complete a 12-month ARD/DUI program and more. The (ARD) program offers an offender a chance to make a fresh start.

Jury Set in Somerset D.A. Case

The jury has officially been selected for the trial of suspended Somerset County District Attorney Jeff Thomas, which is set to begin in early March. Thomas is facing sexual assault, simple assault, strangulation, and a slew of other related charges, for allegedly sexually assaulting a Windber woman inside her home in September of 2021.

Altoona Man Charged with Sexual Assault

State police in Hollidaysburg say a 74-year-old Altoona man is behind bars following an investigation into accusations that he repeatedly sexually assaulted a young girl for nearly three years. Jerry Fultz is the accused.
