Altoona Contractor Faces Charges

An Altoona man is facing charges after reportedly taking $7,600 from a woman to replace her roof but never doing the job. Altoona police have charged 47-year-old Benjamin Townsend after allegedly taking a $500 cash deposit from an Altoona woman and then cashing a $7,100 check the next morning.

Christmas Cheer in Altoona

Some officers from the Altoona Police Department, Blair County Sheriff’s Office and the Logan Township Police Department joined Santa in Altoona Monday evening to deliver gifts, to those in need. All of the departments say they want to help as much as they can this year.

House a Total Loss in Cambria County

Authorities in Cambria County say an early morning blaze destroyed a home in Southmont this morning. Crews were dispatched to the residence, located along the 400 block of Southmont Blvd., just before 5 a.m. Authorities say the home was deemed a total loss. No injuries were reported in the blaze.

PennDot Locations Closed Saturday-Monday for Holiday

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Saturday through Monday, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Some Services will be available at www.dmv.pa.gov.

Animal Cruelty Charges for Bellwood Man

A Bellwood man, Christopher Zacker, was charged with felony animal cruelty after he was accused of killing a cat in Antis Township. UPMC Altoona Donates Stop the Bleed Kits

In medical emergencies, seconds matter, so UPMC Altoona is equipping the Blair County Sheriff’s Office with “Stop the Bleed” kits. TheSheriff’s Office will receive 12 “Stop the Bleed” kits that will go into each of the department’s cars and can control up to six bleeding injuries at once.

Blair Co. Man Arrested after Breaking into Woman’s Home High on Meth

Authorities with the Altoona Police Department say a Blair County man is behind bars after he reportedly trespassed into a woman’s home, while high on methamphetamine, in an attempt to hide from police. 30 year old Cody Hulse was transported to the Blair County Prison on charges of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

Five weeks after Election Day, winning candidates in Pennsylvania from governor to Congress are waiting for their victories to become official. An effort that appears to be at least partially coordinated among conservatives has inundated counties with ballot recount requests even though no races are close enough to require a recount.

Emporium Man Dies in Fire

Authorities in Cameron County say a 91-year-old Emporium man was killed earlier this week in a fire in Shippen Township. Troopers say on Monday, just before 8 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a residence along Beechwood Road. Troopers say the fire was not suspicious and caused approximately $86,000 in damages.

Woman Arrested After Saying She Huffed Freon from Cars

A Indiana woman was locked up on DUI charges after she allegedly told police she was huffing freon from parked cars. On Tuesday around 10:14 p.m., police said they were called to the Walmart at Clearfield-Shawville Highway for a report of a woman driving under the influence. That’s when they arrested 58-year-old Connie Sue Mattix.
